About Me
Hi, I'm Josh
All throughout my younger years I've always felt like I've had a purpose or calling in life but could never quite figure out what it was. I would go from job to job, hobby to hobby trying to find that one thing that I felt was missing.
That's until I attended Portsmouth Lifeboat Stations Christmas Carol Service in December 2017. I knew of the RNLI but not really the ins and outs of it. I sat there in the pews in awe as the Lifeboat Operations Manager listed off the years rescues along with all the amazing work the crew had done within the community. I also learned that this was all achieved by the loyalty and dedication of volunteers who would drop everything at a moments notice to don their kit and save lives at sea. It was at this point I was inspired and knew that this was what I wanted to do. After the service I headed straight up to the Lifeboat Operations Manager and expressed my interest in joining.
A few months later in 2018 I got the call to visit the station for an interview and it was soon after that I joined Officially as Shore Crew. I spent 6 months volunteering amongst the crew learning rope work, how to make sure that the lifeboats were ready for service and how to safely work as part of a team to launch and recover the lifeboats. It was great to watch them go out, but even better to watch them come back with the crew all safe and sound.
After the 6 months as Shore Crew I had finally earned my place on the lifeboat as Sea-Going crew and it really is true in what they say 'every day is a school day'. I've learned so much while I've been on the crew as well as joining a second family. Most importantly I've found that calling and sense of purpose.
In 2020 during the Covid Lockdown I took to TikTok showing viewers what we do as RNLI volunteers as well as the sharing the amazing work the RNLI does while also passing on sea safety advice. Little did I know that this decision would change my life. My channel grew and grew I found myself in local and national newspapers, television and radio. I would also be asked to model in an RNLI collaboration clothing line. I would travel the UK fundraising for different stations and feature in official RNLI social media videos. The response really has been overwhelming.
So I guess this is the next step in my chapter, making an official website. Its from here that I hope to help grow the channel via starting my own store. If you've made it this far through the text, I want to say a massive thank you for all of your support in helping me achieve something that I am so passionate about.
